A New Adventure: Introducing Bethan

The first week of any new job is always a daunting one – “what will I wear?”, “I wonder what it’ll be like!”, “I hope I enjoy it!”. Well, I’m now coming towards the end of my first week at Clearview Minds, and it’s safe to say that I’m loving it!

My name is Bethan and I’m a 22 year old media and communications graduate. I graduated from university last July and with my honours degree in hand, I was ready to take on the big bad world… although maybe not quite yet. After four years of stress and hard work, I decided it was time to relax for a little while and so continued working in retail and booked a 3 week holiday to Thailand for some sun-filled adventures with my other half! We had the best time and made a whole bunch of new memories. Exploring new places is one of my favourite things to do and I can say for sure that if I hadn’t been graced with my natural ginger skin tone, I would definitely be a sun baby! There’s a whole world out there to be explored, and while Thailand was a start, I’d love to see more of it!

But after three full weeks of sunshine and adventures, I made my return to rainy old Scotland and began to hunt for a full-time job. I wanted to find a job that would allow me to make a positive impact using the skills and knowledge that I developed during my studies, and after a few months of well deserved ‘R & R', I felt ready to take the next big step!

Fast forward a few weeks and I’m now sitting at my very own desk as a Digital Marketing Officer for Clearview Minds! I’m excited for the months to come, and while university gave me the knowledge and skills to get my ‘foot in the door’, I already know that I am going to learn so much in my new role – both personally and professionally. This is a job where I can make a difference and I’m ready for the adventure! It is completely different to anything that I’ve ever done before, but I’m excited for the challenge.

My first week has been a bit of a whirlwind! I’m surely finding my feet and already learning so much while pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I’m working hard to develop an effective digital media plan, whilst also getting stuck into creating content for some upcoming programmes. On Wednesday I attended the Renfrewshire Business Network event at the Erskine Bridge Hotel and on Thursday I went along to Renfrewshire Chamber’s Networking Lunch – nothing like being thrown in at the deep end, eh?! Not to worry though, Donna was by my side to ease my nerves and everyone was so lovely - I just had to remind myself that at some point or another, they were all in the exact same position as I am now!

Creativity, integrity and passion are three values that are important to me and I try to keep them in mind when working on exciting projects like this one, but ultimately, my happiness is what motivates me most. I truly believe that success lies in happiness and so if you enjoy what you do, then you’ll be doing the best you can at it and while I know that it’s only my first week here at Clearview Minds, I think this adventure is going to be a good one!
